When you think of losing a loved one, does your heart race, palms sweat,

Fear of abandonment can stem from any number of things. Maybe you were
put up for adoption, your parents divorced, or you were left by someone
with whom you thought you had a stable relationship. No matter what the
cause of your fear, you can find a way to relieve your anxiety and form
healthy, lasting relationships.
There are several types of therapies that are available to help you conquer
your fear of abandonment. One is neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). This
examines how we construct our realities—how we have come to fear
abandonment--and helps us reprogram ourselves so that fear is diminished
or completely eliminated.
Another therapy that examines how we are programmed is hypnotherapy. Through
hypnosis you are able to get into your subconscious mind and replace negative
thought patterns with more positive ones. You will find that through this
fast and safe method, you are able to minimize or completely lose any
irrational fears you have.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy can also be used to treat a fear of abandonment.
During this type of treatment, you and your therapist monitor your thoughts
and actions to learn what you can do differently. Essentially you retrain
your negative thoughts and actions. The drawback is this kind of therapy
often takes quite a bit of time and requires a good deal of commitment
from you.
