Do You Have a Fear of Being Alone?Monophobia is the fear of being alone. It can cause such physical symptoms as heart palpitations, inability to speak or think clearly, and excessive sweating. Monophobia can be caused by any number of things, such as abandonment as a child or loneliness in early childhood. But like all phobias, it can be cured. The problem with treating a fear of being alone with therapy is that it can take years to see any results at all, let alone find a complete cure. You might find it helpful and reassuring to have someone to talk to about your feelings, but talking can also keep you stuck in the same old rut. There more you talk about something, the more you think about it. The more you think about it, the more it is a real part of your life. That is no way to get rid of your fear of being alone. Hypnosis is a great way to treat your fear of being alone. Many people have a distorted view of hypnosis, though, so they don't really give it serious thought. You don't go into a trance where someone else controls your every action and can make you do things you don't want to do.
